President Bola Tinubu has directed key economic officials to urgently develop strategies to mitigate the impact of the ongoing Middle East crisis on Nigerians, particularly in light of rising fuel prices and economic pressure.
The directive was issued on Friday during a civic reception held in Yenagoa, where the president also inaugurated several development projects executed by Douye Diri. According to a statement by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu tasked the Ministries of Finance and Budget, along with the Office of the Head of Service, to examine practical measures that would ease the burden on citizens.
Acknowledging the strain caused by global developments, the president noted that fluctuations in international oil markets, driven by tensions in the Middle East, were directly affecting domestic fuel prices. He stressed the need for responsive governance that reflects current global realities while prioritising citizens’ welfare.

“Yes, I hear you from various angles of the economy. The fuel prices are biting hard, but we must also reflect on global realities,” Tinubu said, assuring Nigerians that his administration remained committed to addressing the challenges.
He emphasised that his government would carefully review economic indicators and collaborate with relevant agencies to introduce policies aimed at cushioning the hardship faced by citizens. According to him, governance must translate into tangible benefits such as improved infrastructure, job creation, stable power supply, and economic opportunities.
The president also reaffirmed the commitment of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to delivering impactful governance through its Renewed Hope Agenda. He commended Diri for implementing projects that align with the administration’s development vision, describing them as transformative for the people of Bayelsa State.
Among the projects inaugurated were a 60-megawatt gas-fired Independent Power Plant in Elebele, the 630-metre Angiama–Oporoma Bridge, and a newly constructed road in Yenagoa. Tinubu noted that collaboration between federal and state governments remains essential for accelerating national development.
He reiterated his administration’s determination to achieve energy sufficiency and improve living standards, assuring Nigerians that efforts were underway to stabilise the economy despite global uncertainties.
