A factional National Caretaker Working Committee (NCWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed that its planned national convention will go ahead as scheduled, despite internal disagreements and conflicting claims.
Addressing journalists in Abuja on Saturday, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, described the convention as a critical milestone for the party’s democratic process. He said the event represents a reaffirmation of the PDP’s commitment to due process, transparency, and the collective will of its members.
Mohammed emphasized that extensive preparations had been made to ensure a credible, inclusive, and peaceful exercise. According to him, all arrangements are in place to guarantee a smooth convention that aligns with the party’s constitution and relevant legal provisions.
He dismissed reports suggesting disruptions or legal impediments as baseless, attributing them to misinformation on social media. He urged delegates and stakeholders to remain calm and conduct themselves responsibly throughout the process.

The PDP spokesperson also addressed concerns about internal disputes, noting that while reconciliation efforts remain ongoing, the faction would not allow dissenting voices to derail what it described as a legitimate and widely supported process.
Mohammed commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for facilitating a conducive environment for hosting the convention. He further clarified that the committee had not been served with any court injunction allegedly linked to a rival faction led by Tanimu Turaki.
Drawing a distinction between the upcoming convention and a separate gathering held in Ibadan, Mohammed argued that the latter lacked legal backing and had been restricted by a competent court. In contrast, he maintained that the Abuja convention enjoys full legal support.
He added that the NCWC has garnered backing from key party figures, including former Senate President Bukola Saraki and Sule Lamido, alongside several lawmakers and stakeholders.
The convention is scheduled to take place on Sunday and Monday at the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola International Stadium in Abuja.
