Nigerian troops operating in Borno State have recorded another success in the fight against terrorism after neutralising several suspected terrorists and recovering weapons and ammunition during a military operation.
The operation was carried out as part of ongoing efforts by the armed forces to dismantle terrorist networks operating in the North-East and prevent them from regrouping or launching attacks on communities and security personnel.
According to military authorities, troops encountered the suspected terrorists during an offensive operation in the affected area. The encounter reportedly resulted in the neutralisation of several members of the terrorist group, while others were forced to flee into surrounding areas.
Following the operation, troops recovered weapons and ammunition believed to have been in the possession of the terrorists. The recovered items are expected to assist security agencies in ongoing investigations into the activities and movements of the criminal elements.
The military said the operation demonstrates the determination of the armed forces to maintain pressure on terrorist groups and prevent them from establishing permanent bases in communities across Borno.
Security forces have continued to conduct offensive operations, patrols and intelligence-led missions across the North-East as part of efforts to restore lasting peace to the region. Borno has remained one of the states most affected by insurgency, with thousands of residents displaced by years of terrorist attacks.

Military authorities have repeatedly urged residents to support security operations by providing useful information about suspicious movements and activities. Intelligence from local communities has been identified as an important element in locating terrorist camps and preventing attacks.
The latest operation also comes amid renewed efforts by security agencies to prevent terrorists from exploiting difficult terrain and remote communities as hideouts.
The military has assured residents that troops will continue to maintain pressure on terrorist groups and protect communities from attacks. It also warned terrorists and other criminal elements that security forces would pursue them wherever they operate.
Residents in affected areas have welcomed continued military operations, while also calling for sustained security presence after successful operations to prevent terrorists from returning.
The recovery of weapons and ammunition is expected to weaken the operational capacity of the affected terrorist group and strengthen the military’s intelligence-gathering efforts.
Authorities reaffirmed that operations against terrorists will continue until peace and stability are fully restored across communities affected by insurgency in Borno and the wider North-East region.
