Nigerian Bar Association Donates Relief Materials to Sokoto IDPs

The Sokoto State chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has extended humanitarian support to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) by donating essential relief materials as part of activities marking its 2026 Law Week.
The donation exercise took place on Friday at the Guiwa Low Cost IDPs Camp, located within Sokoto metropolis. Beneficiaries received a range of items including foodstuffs, detergents, clothing, footwear, and sleeping mats aimed at improving their living conditions.
Leading the outreach was the state Chairperson of the association, Rashidat Mohammed, alongside the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Abdullahi Ibrahim. The team emphasized the importance of supporting vulnerable populations affected by insecurity.
Speaking during the distribution, Mohammed said the initiative was a demonstration of solidarity with displaced persons whose conditions were worsened by persistent security challenges. She explained that the NBA’s intervention was designed to complement government efforts while drawing attention to the urgent need for improved welfare in IDP camps.
“Our effort is to support what the government is doing and highlight the need for stronger commitment to improving the lives of displaced persons,” she stated.
She further advocated for the establishment of standard IDP camps equipped with schools, healthcare facilities, and other essential services. Mohammed also called on citizens to contribute to national efforts in protecting lives and property, stressing that security is a shared responsibility.
Also speaking, a legal practitioner and retired Permanent Secretary, Aisha Dantsoho, said the gesture was intended to ease the hardship faced by the displaced population. She urged beneficiaries to remain patient and hopeful, encouraging them to maintain faith and unity during challenging times.
