Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Jimoh Ibrahim, has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu is actively engaging multiple countries in a bid to address the nation’s persistent security challenges.
Speaking on Friday in New York upon his arrival to assume office, Ibrahim said the Nigerian government was adopting a multilateral approach, reaching out to countries such as United States, United Kingdom, and Türkiye, among others, to seek collaborative solutions.
He emphasised that Nigeria was not relying on a single foreign partner but was open to support from any nation with viable strategies to combat insecurity, including terrorism and insurgency. According to him, the administration is determined to explore diverse global partnerships to strengthen national security.

Ibrahim noted that while challenges such as Boko Haram persist, Nigeria remains committed to overcoming them through sustained international cooperation. He added that engaging multiple stakeholders globally would enhance the country’s capacity to respond effectively to threats.
Highlighting the broader perspective, the envoy pointed out that many countries have faced security crises at different times, referencing incidents like the September 11 attacks in the United States as an example of global vulnerability to terrorism.
The former senator said his mandate at the United Nations includes mobilising international support for Nigeria while projecting the country’s commitment to unity and stability. He stressed that the government’s foreign policy direction aligns with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which incorporates strong international engagement.
Ibrahim firmly reiterated that Nigeria’s unity is non-negotiable, describing the country as an indivisible sovereign nation. He maintained that any notion of division is unacceptable and does not reflect the government’s position.
Expressing optimism, the envoy assured that Nigeria would overcome its current security challenges, noting that global cooperation and strategic diplomacy would play a crucial role in restoring peace and stability across the country.
