Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar (Marafan Sokoto) has further expanded his Scholarship Initiative, increasing educational opportunities for indigent students across Zamfara State.
As part of the latest phase, 50 additional students from all 14 local government areas of the state have been awarded full scholarships to study various undergraduate courses at Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila, Kano State. This is in addition to the 100 students already sponsored to pursue health-related programs at Green Garden School of Health Technology, Gusau, Zamfara State.
Speaking on behalf of the initiative’s founder, Senator Tijjani Yahaya (Tafidan Ƙaura) emphasized that the expansion was driven by a commitment to support vulnerable students in achieving their academic goals despite financial constraints. Represented by Professor Sha’aya Shehu (Sarkin Rafin Mafara), he explained that the selection of Al-Istiqama University and Green Garden School of Health Technology was strategic, aiming to strengthen key sectors, including healthcare and mid-level manpower development in Zamfara.
While addressing the newly sponsored students, Professor Shehu assured them that their tuition, accommodation, and other fees were fully covered, alongside a monthly stipend to support their welfare. He urged them to uphold academic excellence and moral integrity, representing Zamfara State with pride.
Expressing gratitude, Naziru Malam Hassan Gummi, a beneficiary, acknowledged the life-changing impact of the scholarship, while Aisha Sa’idu, another recipient, vowed to reciprocate the support by excelling in both academics and personal conduct.
On behalf of Al-Istiqama University, Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kabiru Muhammad Ƙofa, welcomed the students and commended Senator Yari for investing in education. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to academic excellence and moral discipline, noting its zero-tolerance policy on immorality and the mandatory inclusion of Arabic studies for all students.
Officials from the Scholarship Initiative, including Hon. Abubakar Aliyu (Ɗanmadamin Maradun), Hon. Ibrahim Muhammad (Ɗanmadamin Birnin Magaji), and Mal. Ismail Muhammad Amin, visited the university facilities before signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the institution.
With these latest additions, the initiative has now sponsored 150 students at Al-Istiqama University and Green Garden School of Health Technology, complementing the 1,700 students already placed in 16 public universities across the Northwest geopolitical zone under the 2024/2025 academic session.
