The Inspector-General of Police has announced plans to deploy four police officers to each polling unit during the forthcoming local government elections in Osun State as part of measures to ensure a peaceful, free and credible electoral process.
According to the police authorities, the deployment is intended to strengthen security, prevent electoral violence and protect voters, election officials and sensitive electoral materials throughout the exercise.
The Inspector-General stated that officers assigned to polling units would operate professionally and remain neutral throughout the election. He warned that any officer found engaging in misconduct or partisan activities would face disciplinary action in accordance with police regulations.

The police also disclosed that additional tactical and intelligence teams would be stationed across strategic locations to respond promptly to any security threat. Security agencies are expected to work closely with other stakeholders to maintain law and order before, during and after the election.
Residents have been encouraged to conduct themselves peacefully and comply with lawful directives issued by security personnel. The police warned against vote-buying, ballot box snatching, intimidation, violence and any other actions capable of disrupting the electoral process.
Political parties and their supporters were urged to campaign peacefully and respect the rights of other participants. The Inspector-General emphasized that security agencies would enforce the law without fear or favour against anyone attempting to undermine the election.
Election observers welcomed the security arrangement but stressed the importance of professionalism, impartiality and respect for human rights throughout the exercise. They noted that adequate security can improve voter confidence and encourage greater participation in the democratic process.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives, property and the integrity of the election, assuring residents that all necessary measures have been put in place to ensure a peaceful and orderly voting process across the state.
