Northern Governors Convene in Kaduna to Tackle Worsening Regional Security Crisis

A strategic meeting has been convened by the leaders of Nigeria’s northern states in Kaduna to address mounting insecurity across the region. It was announced that the 19‑state Northern Governors will meet to develop a unified response to growing threats from banditry, terrorism, kidnappings, and communal violence.

During the meeting, support was expressed for the expansion of security measures, including enhanced collaboration between state and federal security agencies. A call was made for greater cooperation with traditional rulers and local communities to improve intelligence sharing and grassroots surveillance.

It was stressed that a joint approach will be needed to reverse the trend of attacks targeting schools, farmlands, and vulnerable communities. Emphasis was placed on strengthening local initiatives and erecting inter‑state security platforms to coordinate efforts across borders.

Acknowledgment was given to the recent efforts of the Federal Government in deploying security resources, though it was also observed that challenges remain significant. It was pledged that both long‑term and emergency strategies will be considered to restore stability, protect lives and property, and reassure affected citizens.

The gathering is being viewed as a critical step toward fostering cooperation, solidarity and collective responsibility among northern states with the hope that coordinated action can stem the tide of violence and restore normalcy to affected communities.
