NAF Airstrikes Destroy Terrorist Enclave in Lake Chad Region, Kill Scores

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified its offensive operations in the North-East, destroying a major terrorist enclave in Kangarwa, located in the Northern Tumbuns area of Borno State.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, disclosed that the precision airstrike was carried out on April 1 at about 12:05 p.m. The operation was conducted under the ongoing Operation HADIN KAI, following credible intelligence and sustained surveillance of terrorist activities in the area.
Ejodame explained that the targeted enclave had been under close observation through Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions. These efforts confirmed significant movement and the presence of insurgents within the settlement, prompting decisive action by NAF air assets.

According to him, multiple attack runs were executed on identified structures and concealed locations used by the insurgents. The strikes were described as highly effective, resulting in the destruction of key infrastructure, including logistics hubs and operational shelters.
“Scores of fighters were neutralised during the bombardment, significantly degrading the operational capability of the enclave and disrupting insurgent movement in the area,” Ejodame said.
He added that the successful air interdiction is expected to create favourable conditions for ground troops to advance, secure the area, and conduct follow-up clearance operations. The operation also highlights the growing synergy between air and ground forces in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign.
The destroyed enclave is believed to have been a stronghold of Islamic State West Africa Province elements, with its command and support structures reportedly dismantled.
Meanwhile, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, reaffirmed the NAF’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations. He emphasised continued collaboration with ground forces to eliminate terrorist hideouts and restore lasting peace and security across the region.
