Kebbi Governor Signs ₦642.9bn 2026 Budget Into Law

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law. This move gives legal force to the budget that will guide the state’s spending in the 2026 fiscal year.

The ceremony took place on Tuesday at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi. The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Usman Muhammad-Zuru, formally handed the approved bill to the governor. Soon after, the governor gave it his assent.

The total budget size is ₦642,930,818,157.99, or about ₦642.9 billion. It covers both recurring costs and capital projects for the year.

What Legislature Did

Before the signing, the Kebbi State House of Assembly debated and passed the budget in line with the law. Lawmakers reviewed the figures and discussed proposals with the ministries, departments, and agencies. They also invited civil society groups to add input, aiming for better transparency.

The Assembly retained the original budget numbers submitted by the governor. Around 25 % of the total is for recurrent expenses, while roughly 75 % is set aside for capital spending.

Speaker Zuru said the House worked hard to meet deadlines and ensure the budget was ready for assent. He noted that under the current administration, the Assembly passed about 60 bills that the governor has already signed into law.

Governor’s Remarks

Governor Idris thanked the Speaker and lawmakers for their cooperation during the process. He said the strong working relationship between the executive and legislature helps the state govern better.

The governor urged efforts to grow the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). He said federal funds alone are not enough to meet the state’s needs. Idris also stressed that the budget will focus on key areas like service delivery and development projects.

He promised that adjustments will be made where needed during implementation. The governor reaffirmed his commitment to working with all branches of government to achieve the budget goals.
