Insecurity: Results to Be Seen Soon, Defence Minister Says

The recently sworn-in Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), has assured that the renewed security strategies of the Federal Government will soon yield visible results across Nigeria. The assurance was given just after the minister’s swearing-in at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, following confirmation by the Senate.

It was indicated that the immediate priority will be the restructuring of the defence architecture and the enhancement of cooperation among all security formations. Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening the synergy between the armed forces, other security agencies, and involvement of the citizenry — on the basis that security is everybody’s responsibility.

It was further stated that within the shortest possible time, tangible improvements in security would be witnessed nationwide. The commitment was reiterated: “whatever it takes” would be done to ensure that Nigeria is secured, and that citizens can return to their farms and children to school without fear.

The appointment of General Musa followed the resignation of the former Defence Minister, leaving a security leadership gap that is now being addressed. As a former Chief of Defence Staff, General Musa is expected to lead defence efforts at a time when the country faces serious security challenges.

Confidence was expressed that, with renewed institutional coordination, use of technology-driven intelligence tools, and broad citizen participation, the fight against kidnapping, banditry and other forms of insecurity will become more effective. Expectations were set that the positive results of these efforts will soon be visible across the country
