GOVERNOR FUBARA INVITES 27 HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY MEMBERS TO GOVERNMENT HOUSE

In a bold move aimed to resolve the impasse between the state government and the 27 members of the House of Assembly recently reinstated by the Supreme Court, Governor Siminilayi Fubara has invited the lawmakers to a meeting in Government House,Port Harcourt.

Recall that the lawmakers led by Martin Amaewhule had twice given an ultimatum to the governor to represent the 2025 appropriation bill.

The first, a 48hr ultimatum and the second, a 72- hour ultimatum, both being criticised and described by public analysts as dictatorial and disrespectful to the office of the governor.

However,in a letter dated 7th March and addressed to Speaker Martins Amaewhule by the office of the Secretary to The Government titled,” Meeting Between the Governor of Rivers State And the Honourable Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly ,said that Gov Fubara having received the Supreme Court judgement has therefore directed to invite the lawmakers to a meeting.

The letter stated that the meeting which will be held on Monday 10th March,2025 in the office of the governor, Government House,Port Harcourt will focus on key issues like providing a befitting space for the Assembly’s sitting,, Payment of all outstanding renumeration or allowances of the honourable members , presentation of the budget and sundry matters and any other matters that may be necessary to chart the way forward in the best interest of the state.
