FG Calls for Integrated Diagnostic Services to Strengthen Healthcare Delivery

The Federal Government has emphasized the need for better integration of diagnostic services into Nigeria’s healthcare system, urging stakeholders to leverage advanced technologies and maximize the expertise of diagnostic professionals.

Speaking at the National Summit in Abuja, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziak Salako, highlighted that integrating diagnostic services will enhance efficiency, eliminate redundancies, and improve resource utilization in the healthcare sector.

Advancing Healthcare Through Diagnostics

Themed “Unlocking Healthcare Value Chains and Improving Universal Health Coverage through Integrated Diagnostic Services,” the summit focused on how diagnostic integration can:

✅ Reduce medical tourism
✅ Lower healthcare costs
✅ Create job opportunities
✅ Conserve foreign exchange
✅ Boost Nigeria’s economy
✅ Improve overall health outcomes

Dr. Salako stressed that a well-structured diagnostic system is crucial for achieving universal health coverage and strengthening the nation’s healthcare value chain.

WHO’s Commitment to Strengthening Diagnostics

Speaking on behalf of the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Representative, Dr. Laxmikant Chavan reaffirmed WHO’s commitment to enhancing laboratory services, expanding diagnostic networks, and ensuring sustainable access to high-quality diagnostic solutions across Nigeria.

The government and its partners continue to push for better healthcare infrastructure, ensuring that diagnostic services play a central role in delivering efficient and affordable healthcare to all Nigerians.
