The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has forecast rainfall across 22 states and warned residents in some areas about the possibility of flash flooding.
The weather agency issued the warning as part of its latest forecast, urging residents and relevant authorities to take precautions in areas expected to experience significant rainfall.
NiMet predicted cloudy conditions in parts of the southern region during the morning, with chances of light rainfall over parts of Ondo State as well as areas in the South-South and South-East.
The agency further forecast moderate to heavy rainfall during the afternoon and evening in parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.
Other parts of southern Nigeria were expected to experience light to moderate rainfall.
The warning is particularly important because intense rainfall within a short period can overwhelm drainage systems and increase the risk of flash flooding, especially in urban areas with blocked drainage channels or poor flood management infrastructure.
Residents living close to waterways, low-lying areas and flood-prone communities were therefore advised to remain alert and follow weather updates from official authorities.
