Court Blocks Zamfara Assembly’s Attempt to Sack APC Lawmaker

The Federal High Court in Gusau, Zamfara State, has stopped the Zamfara State House of Assembly from proceeding with its move to sack Hon. Aliyu Ango Kagara, the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker representing Talata Mafara South Constituency.

This decision followed a lawsuit (FHC/GSCS/10/2025) filed by Kagara against the Zamfara State House of Assembly, its Speaker, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the first, second, and third defendants, respectively.

Presiding over the case on February 19, 2025, Justice Salim Olasupo Ibrahim issued an interim injunction restraining INEC from conducting a bye-election to replace Kagara in the Assembly. The court also ordered that the status quo be maintained until the Motion on Notice and the substantive case are heard.

The case has been adjourned to March 12, 2025, for further proceedings.

The ruling temporarily safeguards Kagara’s position in the Assembly, as legal proceedings continue to determine the legitimacy of his removal.
