Tinubu Directs Measures to Cushion Impact of Middle East Crisis on Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has ordered key economic officials to develop urgent measures aimed at reducing the impact of the ongoing Middle East crisis on Nigerians.
The directive was given on Friday during a civic reception held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, following the inauguration of several major projects executed by Governor Douye Diri. The instruction was conveyed in a statement issued by Presidential Spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.
Acknowledging the growing economic pressure on citizens, Tinubu tasked the Ministries of Finance and Budget, alongside the Office of the Head of Service, to carefully assess the situation and propose practical solutions to ease the burden on Nigerians.
The president noted that the crisis in the Middle East has contributed to rising global fuel prices, which are now significantly affecting the local economy. He admitted that Nigerians are feeling the strain across various sectors and emphasized the need for responsive governance.
“Yes, I hear you from various angles of the economy. The fuel prices are biting hard, but we must also reflect on global realities,” Tinubu stated.
He reassured citizens that his administration remains committed to addressing these challenges, stressing that efforts are underway to introduce policies that will cushion the economic hardship.
“This is a government that cares. We will look at the numbers with the Ministry of Finance and Budget to ease the burden,” he added.

Tinubu also reaffirmed the commitment of his administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to delivering tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerians. According to him, governance must translate into visible development such as infrastructure, energy, employment opportunities, and overall economic growth.
During the event, the president commended Governor Diri for executing projects that align with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Among the projects inaugurated were a 60-megawatt gas-fired Independent Power Plant in Elebele, the 630-metre Angiama–Oporoma Bridge, and a newly constructed road in Yenagoa.
Tinubu emphasized that strong collaboration between federal and state governments remains essential for accelerating national development and ensuring citizens benefit directly from governance initiatives.
