Sokoto Police Strengthens Security Plans Ahead of 2027 ElectionsThe Sokoto State Police Command says it has strengthened its security architecture ahead of the 2027 general elections and the Ember months.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, disclosed this during a strategic security meeting with Divisional Police Officers, Heads of Departments, tactical commanders and members of the command’s management team at the Command Headquarters.
CP Shaffa directed officers to intensify proactive and intelligence-led policing through targeted raids, regular patrols and effective intelligence gathering.
He said Operation Velvet would be reactivated to enforce traffic regulations and address dangerous driving, particularly the one-way traffic violation identified as a major cause of fatal accidents in the state.
The Commissioner also directed motorists to ensure that their vehicles are properly registered and that valid tinted-glass permits are obtained where applicable.
CP Shaffa warned police personnel against incivility towards members of the public, stressing the need for professionalism, discipline and respect for human rights.
He further directed officers to strictly observe the rules governing the use of firearms as contained in Force Order 237.
The Commissioner called for stronger community engagement and collaboration with relevant stakeholders to improve public confidence and prevent crime.
He said intelligence-led raids and operations would be intensified against banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes, with tactical units including the VCRU and Anti-Kidnapping Unit deployed to protect lives and property across the state.
CP Shaffa urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
