Prioritise Regular Health Checks, Ogun HoS Urges

The Ogun State Head of Service, Olanrewaju Saka, has urged civil servants across the state to make regular medical examinations a habit rather than waiting until they develop symptoms before seeking medical attention.
Saka gave the advice during the flag-off of a free diagnostic programme tagged “Know Your Health Status”, organised by the Ogun State Government as part of activities marking the 2026 Public Service Day.
The programme was held at the Arcade Ground, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, and was designed to encourage public servants to embrace preventive healthcare, early detection and healthier lifestyles.

The Head of Service said the health and wellbeing of workers are directly connected to the effectiveness of the public service. According to him, healthy employees are better positioned to perform their responsibilities with energy, commitment and sustained productivity.
He encouraged civil servants to take advantage of the medical screening programme and to pay greater attention to their physical and mental wellbeing.
Saka also highlighted several welfare measures introduced by the state government, including the continuation of the palliative allowance, a weekly one-day-off arrangement, timely payment of salaries and other legitimate entitlements, as well as investment in staff training and professional development.

Health professionals participating in the programme also advised workers to adopt healthy habits and take preventive measures against diseases.
A family physician, Dr Adekunle Adekanmbi, dietician Moyosore Ademuyiwa and physiotherapist Kolawole Mustapha encouraged workers to pay attention to nutrition, exercise and other lifestyle choices.

They advised workers to avoid regularly skipping meals and encouraged proper meal timing and reasonable food portions.
Simple exercises suitable for office environments were also demonstrated to help reduce problems associated with prolonged sitting, including joint and neck pains.
The programme further provided an opportunity for workers to learn more about the Ogun State Health Insurance Scheme. Officials encouraged civil servants who had not enrolled to register and take advantage of the healthcare benefits available under the scheme.

The initiative reinforces the importance of preventive healthcare in maintaining a productive workforce.
Saka urged workers to make regular health checks part of their personal routine, stressing that early detection can make it easier to identify potential health problems and take appropriate action before they become serious.
