The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained popular TikTok creator Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, after a viral video of his dangerous car driving and livestream went viral. In the footage, Peller appeared visibly distressed and threatened to crash his car on the busy Lekki-Epe Expressway. His actions forced a serious road crash that drew huge online attention and public concern.
Police said the incident happened on Sunday, December 14, 2025, when the 20-year-old influencer was seen driving recklessly while livestreaming. The video showed him endangering not just his own life but also the safety of other road users. Authorities described his behaviour as a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and a serious threat to the public.
A statement issued by the Lagos police and signed by Public Relations Officer SP Abimbola Adebisi confirmed that Peller was taken into custody on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. The case file has been sent to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. When the probe is complete, he will be charged in a court that has the legal authority to try the matter.
The police said Peller’s actions were highly irresponsible and posed a danger not only to him but also to other drivers and pedestrians. They stressed that no one is above the law, and that social media fame does not excuse endangering lives for online views.
Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh used the case to issue a strong warning to social media influencers, content creators, and all members of the public. He said anyone who uses digital platforms to promote harmful or unlawful behaviour will face the full force of the law. The police also urged all motorists to obey traffic rules and avoid risky stunts on the road.
Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has ordered that Peller be prosecuted for multiple traffic violations, including using his phone while driving. The FRSC noted that public roads are not stages for livestreams and that dangerous conduct will not be tolerated, whether done by influencers or everyday citizens.
The crash triggered the vehicle’s airbags and drew bystanders to the scene. Peller was reportedly taken to a hospital after the incident, though officials have not publicly confirmed his medical condition.
The arrest has sparked wide discussion online about the responsibilities of influencers and the impact of online culture on young people’s behaviour. Many have called for stronger guidance and mental health support for content creators who face pressure and emotional challenges.
The case continues to attract public interest as authorities press on with investigations and prepare for possible prosecution.
