Committees Inaugurated for 12th Shaykh Usumanu Bin Fodiyo Week

Preparations for the forthcoming 12th Shaykh Usumanu Bin Fodiyo Week 1447 (2025) have gained momentum with the formal inauguration of several sub-committees by the Chairman of the Main Planning Committee, Muhammad Lawal Maidoki, Sadaukin Sakkwato.

The annual event, organised by the Sultanate Council Sokoto and the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO), Sokoto State Chapter, in collaboration with other Islamic associations, is aimed at celebrating the legacy and scholarship of Shaykh Usumanu Bin Fodiyo. This year’s edition will feature a series of academic, religious, and cultural activities.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at the Islamic Education Trust (I.E.T) Sokoto, Maidoki urged committee members to demonstrate commitment, transparency, and accountability in carrying out their assigned responsibilities. He reminded them that their selection was based on trust and competence, and therefore they must work diligently to justify the confidence reposed in them.

He further advised the committee chairmen to run an open-door policy, carry all members along, and ensure that performance is regularly assessed. Reports of activities, he stressed, must be submitted to the main planning committee for record purposes and further action.

During the occasion, letters of appointment were presented to each committee, alongside detailed terms of reference. Among the committees inaugurated are: Feeding and Accommodation headed by Abubakar Sadiq Isah, Special Daura chaired by Nura Attajiri, Poetry, Quiz and Essay Competition chaired by Dr. Abdullahi Ja’afar, Symposium Committee under Associate Professor Aliyu Muhammad Dogondaji, Security Committee led by Aliyu Ibrahim Kyautawa, as well as committees on Public Lectures, Night Preaching, Phone-in Programmes, Media, Social Media, and Transport.

It was announced that the Repertoire Sub-Committee has been merged with the Public Lectures Committee. All sub-committees were directed to immediately commence work and submit activity reports at the conclusion of the week-long event.
