Ligue 1: PSG Closing in on £40m Deal for World Cup Winner Ferran Torres

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Barcelona and Spain forward Ferran Torres, with the transfer expected to be worth more than £40 million.
The 26-year-old has been given permission to remain away from Barcelona training as negotiations over a possible move to the French champions continue. Torres had been expected to return to training on Wednesday, but his absence has fuelled speculation that the transfer is close to completion.

The proposed move comes at a significant point in Torres’ career. The forward recently played an important role in Spain’s successful World Cup campaign, including scoring the extra-time winner against Argentina as Spain secured its second World Cup title.

Torres joined Barcelona from Manchester City and has remained an important attacking option for the Catalan club. However, with only one year left on his current contract, Barcelona may be willing to consider a transfer rather than risk losing him without a significant fee.
The forward has previously admitted that his future at Barcelona was uncertain. Although he remained under contract, he acknowledged that football can change quickly and that different possibilities could emerge.

PSG’s interest in Torres is understood to be part of their efforts to strengthen their attacking options. The French club continues to build a squad capable of competing for domestic honours and challenging for the UEFA Champions League.
For Torres, a move to Paris would represent another major step in his career and provide an opportunity to compete for trophies in another of Europe’s leading leagues.
The transfer could also bring an end to his spell at Barcelona, where he has experienced both strong performances and periods of uncertainty over his long-term position in the squad.
Although the deal has not yet been officially completed, the permission granted for Torres to miss training suggests that negotiations have reached an advanced stage.
Barcelona supporters will now await confirmation of the transfer, while PSG fans are expected to welcome the possibility of adding a recent World Cup winner to their squad.
If completed, the reported £40 million-plus deal would become one of the notable transfers of the current European football window.
