Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has called on the Nigerian military to intensify its operations against bandits and other criminal groups threatening communities across the state.
The governor’s appeal comes amid continued security concerns in parts of Kebbi and the wider North-West region, where communities have faced attacks, killings, kidnappings and other forms of criminal activity.
Idris urged security personnel to sustain their offensive against criminal elements and prevent armed groups from establishing bases or gaining control of vulnerable communities. He said the protection of lives, property and livelihoods must remain a priority.
The governor has repeatedly expressed support for military operations in the state. In earlier operations, troops successfully repelled attacks by suspected Lakurawa bandits in Maiyama and Shanga Local Government Areas, with the state government praising the soldiers for their professionalism and bravery.
Kebbi has also witnessed serious attacks against security personnel. In March, an ambush in Shanga Local Government Area resulted in the deaths of several security officers, highlighting the risks faced by troops operating in the region.
The governor said defeating banditry requires sustained military pressure, accurate intelligence and cooperation between security agencies and local communities. He urged residents to provide useful information that could assist security personnel in locating criminal hideouts and preventing attacks.

Idris also appealed to communities to support government and security agencies rather than allowing political differences to undermine efforts to tackle insecurity.
The state government has previously rejected claims that it abandoned some communities to bandits, describing such allegations as misleading. Officials explained that some security operations cannot be publicly disclosed because of their sensitive nature.
Security experts have argued that military operations must be complemented by intelligence gathering, border security, community engagement and measures to address the economic conditions that allow criminal networks to recruit and operate.
The governor reaffirmed the state government’s readiness to support the military and other security agencies in their efforts to restore lasting peace.
He expressed optimism that sustained cooperation between the state, Federal Government, military, police and local communities would help eliminate criminal groups and enable residents to return safely to their farms and businesses.
