On Tuesday, NNPP National Publicity Secretary Ladipo Johnson spoke confidently on a national TV political show. He said NNPP will win Kano in 2027 even if Gov Yusuf joins APC because the party has built deep grassroots support across the state. Johnson pointed out that NNPP does not depend only on incumbency or formal power to score victories.
Johnson reminded listeners that in 2019 the party performed strongly without any sitting governor or lawmakers, even though the election was declared inconclusive and later lost by court ruling. He added that in 2023 the party also won major portions of the vote, showing its strength among Kano voters. This history supports the party’s belief that NNPP will win Kano in 2027 even if Gov Yusuf joins APC.
The senior chieftain said NNPP’s local party structures, volunteer networks, and community outreach give it an advantage that cannot easily be erased by individual defections. He said the people of Kano trust the party and will again support it at the polls. His comments came just days after Governor Yusuf held a meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja, which sparked intense commentary about a possible defection to the APC.
Governor Yusuf won the 2023 governorship election on the NNPP platform by defeating the APC candidate. Rumours about his move to the APC have gained traction, but his office stated the Abuja visit focused on security and development matters rather than party realignment.
Amid these political currents, the NNPP leader remained firm that NNPP will win Kano in 2027 even if Gov Yusuf joins APC, attributing the party’s rising popularity to its connection with ordinary voters rather than internal disagreements or defections.
