Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State used the platform of the 2025 Unity Christmas Carol to call for peace, togetherness, and shared purpose among residents, urging people to look beyond divisions and embrace the true meaning of the season. The event was organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in partnership with the state government and held at the Umaru Yar’Adua Conference Centre in Kaduna.
The governor’s attendance fulfilled a promise he made in 2024 to take part in future editions of the carol until the end of his tenure. This year marked his third appearance at the occasion, where leaders of different Christian denominations, government officials, and worshippers gathered for prayers and Christmas songs.
In his speech, Sani said Christmas is more than just celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. He stressed that the season carries messages of love, sacrifice, humility, compassion, and service, values that should guide the actions of all citizens. He described these virtues as timeless ideals that help bridge gaps in society and build strong communities.
The governor said he came to the carol not because he had to, but by choice and conviction. He said such gatherings help remind people of their shared humanity and the enduring power of faith to heal, unite, and inspire collective progress. “Faith remains one of the most enduring bridges to unity, healing and collective progress in our society,” he told the crowd.
Sani thanked religious leaders and Christians in the state for their role in sustaining peace and contributing to stability. He said their choices during difficult times—choosing restraint over reaction, dialogue over division, and unity over suspicion—have helped nurture a hopeful environment in Kaduna.
He also said hosting the Christmas Carol symbolised inclusion, openness, and progress. According to Sani, Kaduna should continue to set an example of peaceful coexistence where people of different backgrounds work together for the common good.
Sani reaffirmed his commitment to serve all people of the state fairly, regardless of faith, ethnicity, or political affiliation. He said this principle has guided his governance since he assumed office on May 29, 2023.
His remarks come at a time when religious and social harmony remains a priority for many Nigerians, especially in diverse states like Kaduna that have experienced tension in the past. The Christmas Carol provided a peaceful setting for people to reflect on unity and renew their commitment to coexistence.
Residents at the event welcomed the governor’s message, describing it as timely and important for strengthening social bonds. Many said they hope the spirit of Christmas will extend beyond the holiday into everyday life, promoting peace and cooperation throughout the state.
