Sokoto Anti-Kidnapping Unit Arrests Three Suspected Bandit Financiers, Recovers Rustled Cattle

The Sokoto State Police Command has intensified efforts against criminal networks with a major operation in Tangaza Local Government Area. On Wednesday, December 3, 2025, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) carried out an intelligence-driven mission that struck at the financial backbone of a notorious bandit group.

The police received credible information that certain individuals were financing banditry by receiving stolen cattle, selling them in local markets, and forwarding the proceeds to armed gangs. Acting promptly, operatives traced the suspects to Gidan-Madi, where they intercepted them at around 2:00 PM.

Three suspects were apprehended, including Ruwa Ginyo, identified as a Fulani community leader. Police officers recovered four rustled cows that the suspects were preparing to sell. Investigations revealed that these individuals acted as brokers and financial intermediaries for the criminal gang, ensuring that the bandits’ operations continued smoothly.

The suspects have reportedly confessed to their involvement, and detectives are now working to identify other members of the financial network. Police sources said that dismantling the funding chain will significantly weaken the bandits’ capacity to carry out attacks and abductions.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Musa, commended the operatives for their professionalism, quick response, and adherence to intelligence. He stressed that attacking both the financial and operational structures of criminal networks remains a top priority for the Command.

The Sokoto State Police Command also urged residents, especially livestock traders, to verify the ownership of cattle before transactions. Citizens were encouraged to continue providing timely information, which the police promised to treat with utmost confidentiality. CP Musa reiterated that public cooperation is essential for creating safer communities and reducing the influence of criminal gangs in Sokoto State.

This operation highlights the police’s determination to act decisively against crime, emphasizing that intelligence-led interventions are central to protecting citizens and their property.
