Sokoto Police to Begin Enforcement of Tinted Glass Permit from October 2

The Sokoto State Police Command has announced that enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit will officially commence on October 2, 2025, following the expiration of a final grace period granted to the public.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufai, the Command urged all vehicle owners with tinted glass to ensure they have completed the mandatory registration and obtained a valid permit through the official platform, possap.gov.ng, before the deadline.

The permit requirement is in line with the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act of 2004, which mandates owners of vehicles with tinted windows to seek official clearance for security and regulatory reasons.

Step-by-Step Application Process

Applicants must complete a series of steps on the portal, including:

  • Creating an account using their NIN, BVN, or TIN
  • Verifying the account via email
  • Filling out vehicle information and uploading supporting documents
  • Making the required payment
  • Scheduling a mandatory biometric capture and vehicle inspection

In Sokoto State, biometric capturing will be conducted at the State Intelligence Department (SID) located at the State Police Headquarters, Gwandu Road, Sokoto. This process is free of charge.

Police Warn Against Fraudsters

The police also issued a strong warning to residents to avoid dealing with unauthorized individuals or third parties offering to facilitate the permit process. All applications must be made strictly through the official portal, and the Command will not be responsible for any fraudulent transactions carried out outside the recognized system.

Commitment to Safety

DSP Rufai reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to upholding public safety and transparency, stressing that the measure is aimed at strengthening national security and ensuring the lawful use of vehicles with tinted windows.

For further updates or assistance, residents are encouraged to contact the Police Public Relations Office or visit the official portal.
