NDLEA FOILS DRUG SHIPMENTS TO US, EUROPE, ARRESTS TWO

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted multiple shipments of illegal drugs, including cocaine, tramadol, and skunk, destined for the United States, Italy, and Poland.

According to a statement by the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the drugs were cleverly concealed in items such as prayer beads, board games, and clothing. The interceptions took place at Murtala Muhammed International Airport and various logistics companies in Lagos.

Two suspects were arrested in connection with the operations. Jakpor Egware May, 43, was apprehended on March 8 while attempting to board a flight to Italy with 190 parcels of tramadol and skunk. Similarly, 60-year-old Yahaya Fatai Ayinla was caught on March 11 while trying to ship 400 grams of skunk to the US.

The NDLEA also carried out major seizures in Kano, Kwara, and Kaduna states. In Kano, operatives confiscated 479 kilograms of skunk, while over 40,000 tramadol pills were seized in Kwara. Additional drug busts were made in commercial vehicles and other locations nationwide, leading to arrests in states such as Osun and Abia.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended the agency’s operatives for their successful interceptions, emphasizing the importance of sustaining efforts against drug trafficking and abuse. The agency also continues its public awareness initiatives under the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign.
